The artist behind Hand-Painted Floorcloths is Jesse M. James. Inspired to find a unique
hallway runner after renovating his turn of the century home, Jesse ended up creating
his first floorcloth. Soon after he started Hand-Painted Floorcloths and
subsequent orders followed.
Since then Jesse has painted with water-based paints on
canvas, linoleum, furniture and home accessories. He is a self taught painter
and is elated to have found a way to express his creative side and
passion for art in the hand painted floorcloths he creates.
Jesse draws his inspiration from textiles, wall coverings, architecture,
vintage publications and bygone eras. What is unique about his hand made custom floorcloths are the designs
he employs, from contemporary to retro.
Jesse works out of his studio in his home in The Neighborhood of the Arts in
Rochester, New York. The Neighborhood of the Arts, located just east of downtown, is
the cultural center of Rochester and a residential Phoenix. Only 15 city blocks long
and three blocks wide, this weighty district packs in more museums, cultural
institutions, art schools, galleries, and studios than any other neighborhood in the
Rochester metropolitan area
Each floorcloth is individually hand crafted and hand painted in a process that takes several days
to weeks. We use only high quality artists' acrylic and latex paints and
top quality artists' canvas and linoleum to create our floorcloths.
